IoT connectivity company Pod Group has expanded into Central America with offices in Mexico and Nicaragua. The company has also announced a deal with Mexico-based SuKarne to provide multi-network connectivity for its cross-border tracking and monitoring devices.

Pod Group, a provider of platforms, software and connectivity services for the IoT and connected enterprises, has expanded its geographical presence into Central America, with the opening of offices in Leon, Mexico, and Managua, Nicaragua. From these offices the company will serve the whole of Central America with its multi-network IoT connectivity and centralised management platform as well as offering its hierarchical billing platform, designed to help companies generate recurring revenue from the IoT.

The offices will add to Pod Group’s existing offices in the UK, Spain and North America and build on the company’s trajectory in the M2M and IoT space since its inception in 1999. Both of Pod Group’s specialist divisions – MVNO Pod M2M and Pod Solutions, the customised products arm of the company – will be represented by local sales and support teams on the ground.

“Pod’s agnostic connectivity is perfect for companies with connected devices in remote locations or those that require connectivity across borders, since the SIMs automatically connect to the best signal and thereafter swap networks if signal is lost to ensure maximum uptime,” said Gerardo Trejo, Pod’s director of business development in Mexico. “This functionality, combined with Pod’s centralised management platform and hierarchical billing platform, gives customers all the tools they need to manage their connected devices and create new subscription-based IoT services.”

Following the initial establishment of the local offices, Pod Group has signed an agreement with Mexican meat producer SuKarne. The company will use Pod M2M’s resilient multi-network in its connected devices to track and monitor goods as they are transported across borders.

“For us, the priority is to offer a product that meets quality regulations, so having reliable coverage that gives us visibility of our devices to guarantee the correct distribution of our product is extremely important,” said Tomas Lomas Ríos, senior vice president at SuKarne. “With Pod M2M we don’t have to worry about coverage or changes in pricing as we cross borders, because they offer us a flat rate product across the whole of the Americas, from Nicaragua to the USA.”
