Lantronix offers fresh approach to IoT software platforms

IoT connectivity company Lantronix has announced what it believes is a new approach to IoT software platforms. It aims to simplify IoT-enablement for OEMs by providing them with a range of ready-to-use apps and services built into the IoT gateway, which could make it faster and cheaper to bring smart, connected products to market.

This should accelerate device time to market with pre-tested applications at lower costs as well as establish new revenue streams for OEMs by enabling them to provide value-add services into devices. For Lantronix, it lets it move up the IoT value chain.

Called Mach 10, the multi-dimensional management software platform is designed to enable OEMs to deliver quickly and profitably web-scale IoT applications and services.

“With more than two decades of experience as an OEM providing robust connectivity to thousands of manufacturers building connected products, Lantronix has first-hand insight into the unmet needs of IoT OEMs,” said Jeff Benck, CEO of California-based Lantronix. “Most IoT platforms provide infrastructure to move some data between the device and cloud, leaving the complexity of building applications around the data to the OEM.”

Mache 10, he said, had been architected from the ground up to simplify the complexity of building web-scale IoT applications and accelerate time to market, so OEMs could add value to their connected products “without reinventing the wheel”.

“As we begin engaging customers and previewing our new platform, we felt it was time to share more of where we are headed and the problems we are working to solve for our customers,” said Benck. “The Mach 10 vision is the direct result of the many candid conversations we’ve had with our OEM customers where they shared the challenges they face in bringing their products to market. Today, building an IoT solution can seem even more complex than ever before and the number of platform choices seems to be multiplying each day. As an OEM building for OEMs, we are well positioned to help our customers solve a bigger piece of the IoT problem by enabling them to overcome the major hurdles they face in building market-leading, smart connectivity.”

Mach 10 is a multi-dimensional management software platform designed specifically to enable IoT OEMs to deliver web-scale IoT applications and services. Featuring extensible, ready-to-use management applications and a suite of essential micro-services available through industry-standard APIs, it is a cloud agnostic, hybrid platform that allows OEMs and their partners to deliver secure data access and management software and services to support their connected machines and their customers.

Lantronix has also published a whitepaper – “Busting The Myths of OEM IoT Application Development” – which highlights some of the considerations and common misconceptions OEMs face when contemplating how to deliver comprehensive smart connectivity.
