China Mobile has announced plans to invest US $6 billion in building out an NB-IoT network infrastructure over the next two years. The company has initiated bidding projects for a range of base stations and core network infrastructure.

The overall budget announced for the two year NB-IoT programme is CNY40 billion (US $5.96 billion).

The company plans to establish up to 400,000 NB-IoT base stations over two years. 145,000 base stations are scheduled to be built in 2017 to a budget of CNY10 billion.

China Mobile is planning to buy up to 1.1 million NB-IoT antennas. These will be operated in a single 900MHz frequency band and in dual 900MHz and 1800MHz bands.

The company has said that it will begin deploying its IoT networks in 346 cities across China. It plans to increase the number of its IoT connections to 200 million by the end of 2017.
