July 20, 2017
Sony Mobile Communications has joined the MulteFire Alliance to advance MulteFire technology in the field of industrial IoT and M2M communications.
The MulteFire Alliance is working on Release 1.1, which includes IoT optimisations and Sony will be contributing to this area.
The MulteFire Alliance is an independent, diverse and international member-driven consortium defining and promoting MulteFire.
“We value our membership in the MulteFire Alliance as the need for improved connectivity in industrial IoT settings and M2M communications is more important than ever,” said Izumu Kawanishi, executive vice president of the Japanese company’s mobile product business group. “We recognise that industry collaboration through member-driven groups like the MulteFire Alliance serves as a driving factor to ensure market interoperability and expedited technology adoption.”
The MulteFire Alliance is an international association dedicated to building a global ecosystem in support of the common interests of members, developers and users in the application of LTE and next generation mobile cellular technology in configurations that use only unlicensed and shared radio spectrum.
“Sony has joined the alliance at an opportune time, as we are currently laying the groundwork for the next set of features in the Release 1.1 specification, which includes IoT optimisations,” said Mazen Chmaytelli, president of MulteFire Alliance and senior director for business development at Qualcomm. “We look forward to working with the Sony team on specification development and market adoption.”
